Hi friends! Last year in June, we had the pleasure of doing an intimate and detail-filled elopement shoot with our friends at Rocky Mountain Bride. And yes… you may be thinking that this might be a little overdue but it’s been a whirlwind of playing catch up as we’re right in the middle of wedding season (okay so maybe our excuses won’t cut it this time).
Before this issue of Rocky Mountain Bride leaves the newsstands, we wanted to share this special elopement with you because simply, it’s just too good not to share. If you missed the spread, keep reading below as we shared our top tips for how to have an unforgettable elopement with your sweetheart!
TIP #1: DETAILS, DETAILS, DETAILS
Whether it’s just the two of you eloping in a romantic, secluded ceremony or you are including a few close loved ones, the details matter in an elopement as much as they do for a ‘regular wedding’. Those thoughtful extras will help to make your special day memorable and personal. Think back to how you met, where was your first date, what florals has he surprised you with? Those are the beautiful, personal details that tell YOUR story. Let your elopement reflect that story. The couple in our shoot found love sitting next to each other on a plane as they each returned from a trip to Kelowna. We incorporated their love of travel, wine and their hometown of Kelowna into the details of this shoot.
TIP #2: HIRE PROFESSIONALS
Your elopement takes planning to make it come together perfectly, just like a ‘traditional wedding.’ An elopement is not merely a ‘mini wedding’, it really requires some specific expertise and a delicate touch. It’s such an asset to bring on board a few key professionals to help you plan and execute the perfect elopement.
This day is an investment, both financially and in your new future together, so leave the details to the professionals and soak in every amazing moment of your wedding day!
TIP #3: PERSONALIZE YOUR VOWS
We encourage you to take the time to write a personal love letter to your partner through your wedding vows. Stay away from the traditional vows you may find on Google (ahhh…google) but instead remember the butterflies, the emotions, the challenges, all the things that have brought you to this point in your love story.
Think about your dreams ahead and what your marriage will look like. Let your vows reflect this personal journey. It’s a beautiful keepsake to have handwritten vows by a calligrapher. Once you have read them to one another on your elopement day, have them framed to put in your home. After all, isn’t the first-anniversary gift paper?!
TIP #4: THE IMPORTANT THINGS
Remember your elopement IS your wedding day. Don’t rush through it, but instead soak in every moment, every emotion and every detail you have worked to personalize your love story. Hit the pause button and take a few moments together to reflect on the day and what’s to come from this moment forward. This is the first day of the rest of your new life together!
And to make this elopement sweeter than it already is, our featured couple in this shoot, Keddy and Ryan are now recently ENGAGED and celebrating their engagement in the city of love – Paris, France! Sending all the love to you both from the Sweethearts team xo
