Two years ago on September 1st, 2013, Enrico walked into the best blind date he would ever experience. After having a friend tell him she knew the perfect Italian girl for him he gave in and decided to meet Victoria. That day, Enrico and Victoria walked along the sea wall, through Granville Island enjoying the food truck festival with endless laughter and meaningful discussions. It was after that first date that he knew she was the one. Fast forward to this summer, while I was working away in my office, my phone rang and after 30+ minutes I hung up with the biggest smile on my face. I met with Enrico later that day and hours of chatting later we were planning the biggest surprise for Victoria!
The Plan: As the couple are huge foodies and their two year anniversary just happened to fall on the proposal date we decided that Enrico would surprise Victoria with a few days in Whistler at Nita Lake Lodge, with a private dinner for two followed by a decadent chocolate spread and champagne for dessert. I just loved working with this couple: the ideas, the enthusiasm and the love Enrico has for Victoria. Enrico wanted something memorable, personalized and the ultimate surprise. After many ideas and plans back and forth, Enrico and I decided on the Sea to Sky Gondola for the big moment. As they were headed up to Whistler for their anniversary he would pull over and suggest a little adventure since they always wanted to go there together but never did. As the gondola is an outdoor venue it is important to have a rain plan and I am so thankful we did 🙂
The Proposal: The morning of the proposal, Beth (my amazing sidekick) and I packed up the car with personal decor details and headed up the Sea to Sky towards the gondola. After hitting refresh a hundred times on the weather app we decided to push through even though it was calling for heavy rain. We went to the top of the gondola and were completley surrounded by fog and cloud and finally admitted defeat. I immediatley sent out the code to continue on to Plan C (yep this proposal had a plan A, B, C and D) which was at Nita Lake Lodge in Whistler where the couple would be staying the night.
“I felt like I was on the Bachelorette” Victoria
We arrived and went straight to the dock to prepare for the couple’s arrival. We had beat the rain and it was still dry out. **Happy dances ** Sadly while waiting for the couple to “go explore the hotel” it began to rain. Onto Plan D and the final plan! We packed up our lanterns and rose petals and raced off to the bridge. We were set up and hidden away within minutes. As Enrico and Victoria turned the corner, they were welcomed by a trail of red rose petals leading them to a box that said OPEN ME. At that moment, Enrico got down on one knee and said those 4 little words.
After giving the couple a few minutes to let it all sink in, we surprised the couple with a mini engagement session with Simply Rose Photography before whisking them away for their private dinner. And the surprises didn’t end there, while the couple were enjoying their dinner, Beth and I decorated the room with red roses and the next morning over breakfast Enrico surprised Victoria with a trip to Edmonton to share the news with family. Isn’t he the best?!
“THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART FOR ALL THE PLANNING AND LITTLE TOUCHES THAT MADE OUR ENGAGEMENT SO SPECIAL AND MEMORABLE! I’M STILL ON CLOUD 9” VICTORIA- MORNING AFTER
Thank you again Enrico for trusting me with this important moment. It was an absolute pleasure working with you…my Vancouver based George Clooney 😉 Oh ya…. you get a secret agent name when we work together!
